Phil Goddard

Dr. Phil Goddard, the Principal of Goddard Consulting, has extensive experience developing custom software applications for numerical modeling, simulation, data analysis and visualization.

For over 20 years he has worked on a diverse set of projects ranging from developing financial analysis and risk management applications, modeling electro-mechanical engineering systems, designing and implementing advanced control laws and developing user interfaces for specialized data visualization.

He has developed simulation models, analysis applications and embedded code for leading aerospace, automotive, communications, financial services and mining/exploration organizations.

A former manager of the Consulting Group's financial practice, Senior Consultant and Application Engineer with The MathWorks, Phil specializes in the use of the MATLAB and Simulink suite of technical analysis and modeling software from The MathWorks. He has also written and teaches training courses covering the full spectrum of MathWorks products and application areas.

Each year Phil also holds a position as Visiting Lecturer in the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University. Currently Phil teaches two courses within the MSc. Finance program at Beedie: Financial Modeling Tools (VBA, MATLAB and C++); and Numerical Methods (for derivatives pricing). In the past he has also taught a course on econometrics.

Phil graduated with a PhD degree from the University of Cambridge (U.K.), where he specialized in advanced robust control system design within the Department of Engineering. He holds a B.Eng. from the University of Western Australia where he received 1st class honours and graduated at the top of his class. Before founding Goddard Consulting, he worked for The MathWorks and on missile guidance, navigation and control for British Aerospace Dynamics (part of BAe Systems) and process safety instrumentation for Woodside Offshore Petroleum.
