Phil Goddard PhD., President and Principal Consultant

Dr. Phil Goddard, the Principal of Goddard Consulting, has extensive experience developing custom software applications for numerical modelling, analysis, and simulation.

He has consulted with and developed simulation models, analysis applications and real-time code for leading aerospace, automotive, communications, financial services and mining/exploration organizations. For nearly 20 years he has worked on a diverse set of projects ranging from developing financial analysis and risk management applications, modelling electro-mechanical engineering systems, designing and implementing advanced control laws and developing user interfaces for specialized data visualization.

A former manager of the Consulting Group's financial practice, Senior Consultant and Application Engineer with The MathWorks, Phil specializes in the use of the MATLAB and Simulink suite of technical analysis and modelling software from The MathWorks. He has also written and teaches training courses covering the full spectrum of MathWorks products and application areas.

For one semester per year Phil also holds a position as Visiting Lecturer in the Segal School of Business at Simon Fraser University. At Segal Phil teaches a course on Numerical Methods (for derivatives pricing) in the Financial Risk Management (FRM) program and in the past has also taught a course on Financial Econometrics in the Global Asset and Wealth Management (GAWM) program.

Phil graduated with a PhD degree from the University of Cambridge (U.K.), where he specialized in advanced robust control system design within the Department of Engineering and a B.Eng. from the University of Western Australia where he received 1st class honours and graduated as the top of his class. Before founding Goddard Consulting, in addition to working for The MathWorks he worked on missile guidance, navigation and control for British Aerospace Dynamics (part of BAe Systems) and process safety instrumentation for Woodside Offshore Petroleum.

Goddard Consulting is based on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada, and has performed projects for clients across North America, Australia and the U.K.
